Katie Wolfe - Director
Katie is one of New Zealand’s most interesting emerging directors, with a distinctive visual style that has been demonstrated in her internationally acclaimed short film This is Her, her work in the serial drama genre (Shortland Street, Whanau), children’s television (Maori language programme Puukoro) and in theatre (The Case of Katherine Mansfield, Plenty and The Women, for which she was named Most Promising New Director at the 2005 Chapman Tripp Awards).
Katie trained as an actor at Toi Whakaari: The New Zealand Drama School. Her storytelling abilities were evident in a distinguished acting career that spanned theatre, film and television. Theatre roles included the premieres of many New Zealand works, including Haruru Mai and The God Boy. Her film credits include features The Irrefutable Truth About Demons and The Last Tattoo, and short films La Vie en Rose, Lemming Aid and Planet Man. Television roles include long-running core roles in Marlin Bay, Shortland Street, Mercy Peak and Cover Story, for which she won Best Actress at the New Zealand Screen Awards. Katie has also produced New Zealand’s primetime serial drama, Shortland Street, and has established of two theatre companies; Tasman Ray and The New Zealand Actors Company.
Katie’s recent projects include directing Go Girls, an upcoming primetime drama series for Television New Zealand, developing a serial drama for the Maori Television Service, and working on short film and feature film ideas. Katie is from Taranaki and is Pakeha and Maori (Ngati Tama, Ngati Mutunga)
